چکیده

Telecommuting creates a host of opportunities and challenges for managers and workers. Based on the results of a 26 semi-structured interviews, we explore individual’s motives underlying the decision to telecommute. In addition, our purpose was to investigate and understand the advantages and disadvantages of telecommuting from the worker’s perspective. References to advantages, disadvantages and motives in the interviews were extracted, categorized and prioritized. A similar procedure was performed on a sample of 40 articles on telecommuting concerning advantages and disadvantages. The liaterature categories were used as the context in which to discuss the research findings. Motivations to telecommute included: the relaxed atmosphere at home, cost savings, more time to spend with family, lack of a commute, and avoidance of office politics. Motivations to stay at the office included: the need for social interaction, career visibility, need for direct supervision, desire to separate home and work life.

Galactic Dimensions: A Unifying Workstyle Model for User-Centered Design

This paper describes a new unifying workstyle model for the usercentered design process, comprised of eight dimensions that we claim as fundamental to supporting the UCD process. Our proposal is new because it is the first workstyle model tailored to UCD. We also show the usefulness of workstyle modeling when evaluating the stage/effort of a project at a given time. Modeling Style of Work as an Aid to the Design and Evaluation of Interactive Systems

This paper presents the workstyle model, a novel technique for recording the working style of people using an interactive system. Workstyle complements task modeling by providing information on how people communicate and coordinate their activities, and by showing what style of artifact the work is to produce. We have applied the workstyle model to the evaluation of UML design tools and the des...
